TEEES

- a guide to short sleeves

Thunder Chunky: Little but not Less

Thunder ChunkyIt is not always about how many shirts the store sells, the main point is that they are good. Are you with me? Thunder Chunky is a sorta webzine doing interviews with artists and reviews of bands. The thing is that they also stock three t-shirts.

#1 is by the highly talented Mr. Jon Burgerman. Roll over to his site to see The Boy Fitz Hammond more of his tounge-in-cheek illustrations with sometimes borderline cubistic approach. The “Super Snot Zombie” tee is £15.

#2 is by Mike and Katie- the Dynamic Duo from Sheffield UK usually referred to as TADO, maybe the t-shirt designers with some of the most street-cred these days. The “Dark Mature Magic Flows Inside Me” design is just amazing, too. It’s £20.

#3 is made by one of my favorites, The Boy Fitz Hammond, who’s designs are just breathtaking. In Pink Pantherish line, the “Senior Turtle & The Kung Fu Bear” tee is no exception, also at £15, shipping is free within the UK and a mere £2 outside.

Hot off the Press: Threadless Prints Again

ThreadlessOnce more, Threadless have been printing up new and old shirts. Well actually they have also put out some new tees from their sister store, OMG Clothing. Amongst the new designs you’ll find this nice yellow and black scull piece to the right.

Hands On: Owl Movement Tees

I recieved two fresh tees from Owl Movement this weekend, and I am really stoked.Owl Movement
The first one is named “Robots” and is designed by Huskworks, which is one of my favourite t-shirt design outfits. The design is screened with great precision onto an American Apparel shirt of the colour “asphalt”, which is a really nice colour. Huskworks don’t limit themselves to this label exclusively though, they also have designed shirts for Threadless, Busted Tees, Defunker in addition to the tees sold from their own website.

The second shirt is drawn by the Detroit based design studio Secret Pizza Party and is called “After Midnight”. This shirt has a mint green base, and I love the colour of this one too. Both the shirts have wonderfully balaced motifs and the fit is perfect. I’m not sure you can get as soft cotton from any other manufacturer. The AA shirts feel like velvet to the skin. Secret Pizza Party also has their own online store btw, and rumors have it that they love throwing parties.

American Apparel: Solar Powered Tees

Word around the web has it that downtown LA t-shirt sweatshop manufacturer, and TEEES poll-leader American Apparel are currently installing a 146kW solar power system to their factory. Not only will this give them a clean concience, and supply them with “green” power, they also recieve some federal US tax benefits. –a win-win situation, and a thumbs up for AA for setting an example.

TAB Tees On Sale: 2 for 1

Tokyo Art Beat

The Tokyo Art Beat tees are currently on sale at the discount rate of 2 for the price of 1, which apparently is ¥5000 + ¥1200 for shipping which amounts to about $50 for two shirts shipped. The hook is that all proceeds still go to Gadago, the non-profit organisation behind TAB, that “aims to offer platforms for inter-cultural exchanges around art and design”. via Jean Snow

The TEEES Poll: What is Your Favorite Tee?

We’ve just added a poll section to the sidebar. I am hoping you all will go over there and vote on your favorite manufacturer of t-shirts. It may seem somewhat dull, but it might help others in figuring out which tees are nice and which are less good, and it would be nice to see what brand you like. I’ve listed some of the most popular brands. They are all good in my experience, even though I don’t believe I own any Alternative Apparel shirts.

The poll uses JavaScript (ajax) to submit your response, so there is no reloading of the page, making for hassle free voting. Give it a try, and I promise there will be no Florida style counting.

Thanks to Jalenack for the code.

How To Build a Shirt Folding Unit

Shirt FoldingHere is yet another video on how to fold your precious tees in no time. This one involves making a folding unit, and is probably more precise than the free hand deal, and it seems to make nice sharp creases. The whole thing is built out of cardboard and tape, and in addition to the video, there are also blueprints for the device. via La Grimouille

Tees on the Runway

t runway.jpg 2006 will be a year of contrasts and this counts for t-shirts as well. For the right look mix your t-shirt with your most glamorous garments a la Oscar de la Renta and Luella. Try mixing a graphic print tee with a pouffy skirt, it will instantly give you the right look. The prints you should watch out for are especially skulls and chains.

Hello Roboto

Who doesn’t love hard industrial style prints and futuristic robot motifs? I know I do, and this is why I want to bring Mono Clothing to your attention. Out of Leicester, UK, these independant artists grace cotton with the most wonderful prints.

Mono Clothing

In addition to the printed t-shirts, they also sell some uniquie one of a kind ones, and they also have, sweatshirts, hats and accessoires; and make some awsome designed altoid-like tins.
They are currently having a sale, so all tees are £9.99 at the moment, not much to argue about there, innit?

Fred Flare Sale

fred.jpgDon’t miss the Fred Flare Sale, now the tees are $9.99 and up. I love the bambi tee, but there are loads of cute prints to choose from.
